The Symbol of Trinity and Wooden Cross

The Sanctuary of Christ Church United Methodist, Tucson
SYMBOLS IN THE CHURCH
Symbols are basic language of Christianity. Christian rituals and sacraments such as Communion or Baptism are symbolic expressions of our belief; so are the words and music of our hymns and even the design and decoration of our churches.
Symbols serve a three-fold function:
1. to beautify the house of worship, making a fitting sanctuary for the Most High;
2. to inspire devotion and worship by creating an atmosphere suggestive and conductive to Christian meditation;
3. to give expression to the ideas and the historic tradition of the Christian faith.
So each symbol serves an artistic function, a devotional function, and an educational function.
