Welcome!

 Worship at Home for Sunday, January 10, 2021

Welcome
Happy Epiphany! Welcome to worship with Christ Church United Methodist in Tucson. I am pastor Beth and I am so glad you have joined us today for worship! This Sunday we are celebrating the first Sunday in the season of Epiphany. Epiphany is a special time of revelation, noticing God’s presence among us, listening to God calling each of us to participate in the Good News of the gospel. Today we will be hearing a message from retired pastor Rev. Bob Kuyper on one of my favorite passages of scripture, thank you Pastor Bob! As always, I invite you to go deeper with CCUM by visiting our website and if God is nudging you, calling you to participate in the Good News in a new or different way this year, let us know how we can support you. Now let us worship together.

Prelude
“The Ash Grove” arr. Dale Wood

Call to Worship
Confirmed and affirmed by Your Spirit we face the temptations of everyday wildernesses that seek to drive us from the truth, we are God’s beloved children, with whom God is well pleased.  Today let us remember that affirmation, let us be confirmed by the calling God has for each and all of us.  Today let us be blessed once more by the call to follow and find what it is God has in store for us as the nets of our needs burst with blessings abounding.  Amen.

Opening Hymn UMH #578 God of Love and God of Power (vs. 1 & 4) CCLI Song #576791

1. God of love and God of power, grant us in this burning hour
grace to ask these gifts of thee, daring hearts and spirits free.
God of love and God of power, thou hast called us for this hour.

4. God of love and God of power, make us worthy of this hour;
offering lives if it’s thy will, keeping free our spirits still.
God of love and God of power, thou hast called us for this hour.

Invitation to Offering
God who calls us from the lake shores of life, who meets us in the wildernesses of wondering, abundance is your promise to all who follow you.  We hear you declaring that the time has come for good news to ring out, for release, for recovery, for freedom, and favor to reign upon all in new ways.  Let us participate in sharing this message of redemption through our gifts and offerings so that all might hear your call.  Amen.

Offertory
“All Things Bright and Beautiful” arr. John Rutter

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.   Amen.

Closing Hymn UMH #398 Jesus Calls Us (vs. 1, 3, 5)

1. Jesus calls us o’er the tumult
of our life’s wild, restless sea;
day by day his sweet voice soundeth,
saying, “Christian, follow me!”

3. Jesus calls us from the worship
of the vain world’s golden store,
from each idol that would keep us,
saying, “Christian, love me more!”

5. Jesus calls us! By thy mercies,
Savior, may we hear thy call,
give our hearts to thine obedience,
serve and love thee best of all.
