Worship from Home for Sunday, December 13, 2020

Third Sunday of Advent

Welcome
Good morning!  Welcome to worship with Christ Church United Methodist in Tucson.  I am pastor Beth and I am so glad you have joined us today for worship!  Find all the different ways to connect to the ministries of the church online at CCUMtucson.org.  We hope you will join us for our drive in Christmas Eve service on December 24th at 6pm in the Christ Church parking lot.  And now, let us worship together.

Prelude

Call to Worship
Giver of visions, you always call us beyond where we are, what we know.  Like Joseph you have entrusted us with the dream of your heart, like the wisemen you have set before us stars and signs.  Yet these are not easy journeys, they take us away from the familiar leading us into the unexpected. And always your spirit offers joy that gives us courage, that allows us to endure.  Let us follow all the way, as visionaries of your joy.

Opening Hymn UMH 220 Angels From the Realms of Glory (vs. 1 & 4)

1. Angels from the realms of glory,
wing your flight o’er all the earth;
ye who sang creation’s story
now proclaim Messiah’s birth:

Refrain: Come and worship,
come and worship,
worship Christ,
the newborn king.

4. Saints, before the altar bending,
watching long in hope and fear;
suddenly the Lord, descending,
in his temple shall appear: [Refrain]

Blessing of our Light:
Today we first light the candle of hope for it is the spark that gives light to all things, we light the second candle of peace knowing that in the hardest of times this is God’s gift to us that we might be peacemakers.  Today we light the candle of Joy, that gift of the spirit that comes in the hardest of times, so that we might endure and follow God wherever the Spirit guides.  Amen.

Hymns of Preparation
UMH 228 He Is Born The Divine Christ Child (vs. 1 & 3) CCLI Song #7075605

Refrain: He is born, the holy Child,
play the oboe and bagpipes merrily!
He is born, the holy Child,
sing we all of the Savior mild.

1. Thru long ages of the past,
 prophets have foretold his coming;
thru long ages of the past,
now the time has come at last! (Refrain)

3. Jesus, Lord of all the world,
coming as a child among us,
Jesus, Lord of all the world,
grant to us thy heavenly peace. (Refrain)

UMH 240 Hark! the Herald Angels Sing (vs. 1 & 3)

1. Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the new-born King;
peace on earth, and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!”
Joyful, all ye nations, rise, join the triumph of the skies;
with th’angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem!”
Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the new born King!”

3. Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings, risen with healing in his wings.
Mild he lays his glory by, born that we no more may die,
born to raise us from the earth, born to give us second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing, “Glory to the new born King!”

Prayers of the People

Invitation to Offering
God of vision and dream, your Joy sustains your people on the hardest of journeys, inspiring us to go further than we can imagine, to walk with one another no matter the challenge of the road ahead.  Joy is one of your greatest gifts to us, and in response we also give as Joseph and the wisemen gave so that we might continue to be the church, accompanying one another along this way, bringing about your dream.  Amen.

Offertory

Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.   Amen.

Closing Hymn UMH 246 Joy to the World (vs. 1 & 4)

1. Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
let every heart prepare him room,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.

4. He rules the world with truth and grace,
and makes the nations prove
the glories of his righteousness,
and wonders of his love,
and wonders of his love,
and wonders, and wonders of his love.

Benediction
May the One who gives us joy inspire our visions so that we may follow wherever God leads, so that all may know your glory, Source of all Being, Eternal Word and Holy Spirit.
